SKETCHBOOK CHALLENGE: Mister Miracle

If you had told me that the next character I'd be drawing into my sketchbook would be DC's 'Super Escape Artist' I probably would've had you locked up. As a member of the Justice League, Mister Miracle always seemed to linger in the background, more often than not in the shadow of his wife, the warrior Big Barda.

What does make Mr Miracle cool is simply the fact he is another Kirby Concept. Jack Kirby - co-creator of the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Silver Surfer, to name but a few, lost none of his steam when he jumped to doing books for Marvels Distinguished Competition. While I was slow in tuning into just what an amazing artist Kirby was I now eat up the magic of his exaggerated style and use of blacks, at every chance I can.

Having done Darkseid in my last sketch I now turn to one of Jack's best heroic DC creations; the soldier who can escape from any trap, to hone my illustrating skills and honour those of 'The King'.
