THEY COULD'VE BEEN CONTENDERS: The Other Logos Of Wednesday Comics

Last years Wednesday Comics maxi-series wasn't just great comics done right, the whole project and concept thereof was friggin' awesome. This week over at DC's The Source, they’ve been turning back the clock yet again, to take you behind the scenes of the retro-wonder, and the amount of planning that went into its execution.

Here's one 'making of' snippet I thought was pretty nifty – the logo design. Creating a retro masthead, that is as well suited to representing Sgt. Rock as it is to Wonder Woman is a tough brief, but designer Rian Hughes, as you can see below, came up with more than one serious contender.

  1. I loved the WC collected edition! I only wish there had been a way to produce a cheaper version that I could give as gifts to kids--at $50 a pop, I can only afford one for myself. :)

  2. Yeah it didn't come cheap alright, but wow what a project.

Here's hoping it gets a sequel... maybe this time with villains strips??

    Thanks for the comments!

  3. If they did a WC 2, I'd love to see Jonah Hex, Sugar & Spike, Plastic Man, House of Mystery...a little more genre variety.

  4. Nice choices Rob, I'd just add to that list Mr Miracle. I think he would work really well in strip format.
