COVER SHOTS: BOOM! Studios April Solicitations

In March it's Hellraiser and in April it's Planet of The Apes! One of two debuts from BOOM! Studios that month, I'm just glad BOOM! still have BOOM! kids! With all them 'Dam dirty apes' running round you sure need a laugh or two as only Goofy, Darkwing Duck and co. can deliver. The four best covers of the month look allot like these;

COVER OF THE MONTH: PLANET OF THE APES #1 - Karl Richardson As if gorillas weren't awesome enough, this ticked off simian is squishing a human skull in his grip, as he figures out what type of dipping sauce you'd go best with. Set before the classic '68 movie, race relations have just got a whole lot hairier.

CLOSE CONTENDERS: Hardin - The Traveler #6, Scott Godlewski - Dracula: The Company of Monsters #9, and Leonardo Manco - Hellraiser #2. For more BOOM-tastic April goodies click the jump.

  1. Love that cover. It reminds me of when my 10 year old daughter was about 4 and I asked her if she liked gorillas. She replied "no, because they're just really big monkeys, and monkeys freak me out!" Of course our next course of action was to watch "Planet of the Apes". I'm all about scarring my kids for life. Builds character.

  2. Haha - nice one Craig. Plus it gives them great stories to tell later in life. "Daddy I want a fishy" "Let's just watch Jaws first"... :D

    As always Mr. thanks for the comments!

  3. ya know what's ironic about this? gorillas are actually the more mild tempered of the great apes. and they're vegetarians to boot. it's the chimps ya gotta watch out for. they're the ones who are prone to violent outbursts. chimps are hunters and sometimes even cannibals. male chimps sometimes cool the young off spring of rival males when they get pissed off. it's ironic how the gorillas in the Planet of The Apes series were portrayed as the soldiers. chimps are our closest evolutionary relatives having 94% identical DNA to homo-sapiens (that would be us). which explains a lot about the sad state of affairs with the human race. and yes that is a great cover but it really should be a chimp crushing that human cranium.

  5. Jonny, the original is still one of my favorites because despite the now dated looking FX, it's still a really creepy story and great idea.

  6. Dave, we had an issue with a pet chimp last summer in Connecticut. Thing went apeshit (sorry, couldn't resist) and tore it's owner's face off. Isn't nature grand.

  7. Thanks for all the comments guys! I'm just stoked with BOOM Studios - they really have quite a cool powerful little line up going and POTA and Hellraiser really add something sweet to the mix.

    As for monkeys, apes and the like, I've heard some pretty wild stories on all of them - being addicted to Discovery and Animal Planet does that too you) but hey anything that likes bananas to that extent cant be all bad news!

  9. and you had to know it was going to be me Dave. It was either that or that youtube video of the baby Orangutan peeing in its own mouth. I could have gone either way.
