DOING DC'S NON LEAGUE JUSTICE: Did Alex Ross Finish This Painting?

Maxi-series JUSTICE was pretty much All-Star Justice League. Not only was the story pitch perfect, Alex Ross's art and covers were to boot.

Now while I've made many a desktop wallpaper from the classic hero, villain and robot hero shots that have become iconic from the series (left), my jaw has never dropped over the sight of a version of the non-Justice League heroes involved in the series until today (click to enlarge);

Wow doesn't describe it. Not only does it highlight Dick Grayson's place in the DCU, it features The Metal Men, The Doom Patrol, John Stewart, The Titans, The Marvel Family, Supergirl, and Barabra Gordon (aka the best Batgirl of all)!

It's more DC goodness then one canvas could possibly expect to hold, yet it does as only Alex Ross could. Just check out the way Mera holds little A. Jnr, and Kid Flash's response!

If anyone knows if this print actually got printed or inserted somewhere please let me know. My wallet is at the ready!

  1. Is that Gar sitting on Rita's shoulder?

  3. You're going to want to contact Andres of alexrosscollector.com. He is an authority. Personally, I am rather certain it has never been a poster/litho/giclee and I buy most of them.

  4. I think it is ToB! Not only is it a great way to get Gar in - I'm not sure were he could have placed one more face!

    Nice call Aliera! I've cropped it down to just Robin and Batgirl, and used it as the wallpaper to my mobile phone - it looks great!

    Thanks for the lead Jeremy! I have emailed Andrew and will update the post when I get his reply! Thanks for commenting!

  5. Is there any update on whether this piece became a poster?

  6. Hey ToB, sadly I have been informed since that it has not. It has appeared in this form in a few collections, but it seems never finished.

    Next time you hear someone on COPS yell 'Haven't you got real crimes to solve?' they'll probably mean this.

  7. I just automatically assumed the bird was Gar. What I like best about it is the alien quality to Supergirl and the Burt Ward pose for Robin.

  8. Fair calls Dougie - me Robin is the highlight, Dick Grayson was my Peter Parker character that helped hook me into comics, and this is the first piece I've seen highlight his standing in the DCU so well.

    Down from him John Stewart standing forward is a nice touch too. The best GL really had a great role in Justice, and again on this spread.

  9. It was supposed to be the third cover...DC nixed it because they wanted one with the Justice League in their armor. This piece was inked for the oversized book.

  10. Thanks for the update James - that makes a whole lot more sense! Hopefully, one day Alex will be asked to finish it. Even if it's just the first three in the front right!
