NOW THAT'S A SPLASH PAGE: Mystique's Bare Necessities

Splash pages, you gotta' love 'em. A blank canvas where the artist can hit the reader with a large dose of illustrated 'wow'. As a nod to movie X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, and the fact they've thankfully kept Mystique in the line-up, here is an devilishly sexy pin-up of the blue-skinned shape-shifter, by the never-praised-enough; Ron Garney.

While it's not just the desert heat that's a scorcher in this cliff-hanger, you have to wonder what use packing clothes for a desert confrontation is for this gifted little lady anyway?

With Ron's cover to Wolverine #64 already having the term 'iconic stunner' on lock-down, the brawl within between the femme fatale turned one-woman-army and the adamantium hairball was kick-ass fun reading.

What they don't tell you though is ol' Mystique is still finding sand in hard to reach places, but no one ever said being Marvel's ultimate bad girl would be an easy job.

  1. that's a gorgeous splash page of the great blue lady. I love that she's not wearing her white nighty in this pic. The blue jumpsuit is a nice touch.

  2. I take that back.... I don't think she's wearing a jumpsuit. I like the picture even more now.

  3. there would be so many advantages to dating a chick who was a shape shifter. however, what if she was really a guy who shifted into the form of a hot chick? would that be like dating a tranny? and what if she was into doing crazy #$%& like shifting into your mother or into rosy odennell doh! no, it would only be good to date a mutant like Mystique as long as her powers we're limited to changing into other hot women. just imagine going from Angela Basset to Gwyneth Paltrow (with red hair!) depending on what kind of eye candy your in the mood for?

  4. Or Angelina Jolie.
This seems to work here David?

  5. Thanks guys! I was originally going to run an old Nova splash page, but thought he's had enough exposure on IADW lately, and it was time to give a villain a go.

You know Dave I've never thought of that - still makes me thankful Lockjaw isn't a shapeshifter - otherwise his name might take on a double meaning!

  6. See, that picture just makes me wonder...can Mystique get a sunburn?
@Dan...heh. I have never ever thought of Lockjaw that way. Thank you so much.

  7. I'm thinking she's going to get sunburned in places that shouldn't be. Upside? No tan lines.

  8. Or Random and Craig - to take it one step further into mid bobble territory; if she does get sun-tanned, does she turn her hand into IceMan to cool herself down. Or does she run with Man-Thing's Aloe Vera properties? :D I tell you - comics these days don't address the right issues.

As for Lockjaw, you're welcome. He's just glad people are talking about him and Mystique in the same sentence!
