MAKING A MARK: Evan Shaner - The Source of Freshly Squeezed Comic Art Goodness

Twice a week, Making A Mark gives an insanely talented artist some IADW brag-space. Today as part of the whole 'Bright and Light Comic Week' gettup, I'm showcasing a true pro whose work I escape into when ever I need a healthy dose of comics done good - Evan "Doc" Shaner. His love of Marvel's Thing rivals my own, but I don't think any fan can hold a candle to his love for Captain Marvel.

Sure you can see traces of icons like Ringo and Toth in his work, but Doc has mastered reminding you what talent made those people legendary, while still stepping to the side and casting his own shadow. Doesn't mean the guy can't do modern though, right Iron Fist?

Juggernaut wouldn't stand a chance. Boy I hope Doc lands on one of DC's upcoming 'Earth 1' books (something tells me there will be more than just The Justice Society) - he would kill on the adventures of Hourman, Dr Fate or the JSA!

He could even write the book to no doubt. His art proves he hears the characters well. And of course there is this...

Come on back Captain Marvel! Dan wants a new book to say 'Shazam!' about! If you need even more Doc greatness or your Billy Batson withdrawals calmed, be sure to visit Shaner's personal web address, right after the click.

  1. How can anyone not love this guy's clean art? DC should really pay attention and give this guy a shot writing/drawing a Captain Marvel mini. But they wouldn't.

So he's the one what did that (the Cap'n Marvel monologue)! Nice. I absolutly HATE what DC has done to the Marvels over the years, especially Mary. Bastards! Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and make it so Fawcett wins that litigation and gets to keep the characters.

  4. Glad you guys like his art as much as I and 'Happy Thanksgiving!'

Yeah Pensol, I agree, after a pretty great role in JS and Black Adam hitting the big time, the Marvel's mysteriously went AWOL shortly after. Hopefully that all gets changed in 2012!
