NOW THAT'S A SPLASH PAGE: 'Where Run The Moloid Men!'

Splash pages, you gotta love 'em. A blank canvas where the artist can hit you with a large dose of illustrated 'wow'. This week, as a precursor to a week long feature on IADW spotlighting fun comics, is a splashie from Avenging Spider-Man #1 by Joe Madureira that features an army of Moliods vs the runners of the New York Marathon...

Do Moliods look like the coolest kids to draw or what? In the type of scene that would make any artist apprehensive, Joe Mad smashes the culture clash out of the park. Detailed yet clean, this splash represents just how hardcase the entire read was.

Backed by the big light-hearted Spider-Island crossover in his other books, it is great seeing a wisecracking, actually laugh-out-loud-Spidey, leading the comics world once more.

  1. Damn! i was hoping that was The Golden Gate Bridge those moloid buggers were storming! it would have been like Rise of the Planet of the Apes all over again.
just saw your comment on the ROM blog about the video. yeah i thought you'd like having your art work in the video mate. One True Media isn't very hard to figure out how to use. it just takes a little practice i made that video within a few hours of discovering the program. if i was gonna make another one i could do it much faster and maybe set up the art work to look better resolution wise in the video.

  2. Nice! I haven't seen Rise yet Dave. Part of me really wants to, but I don't know if I can bare it if it stinks. Planets is such an awesome franchise!

  4. I love that picture, especially the attention to detail. Even on the characters in the far distance, each one is rendered just as cleanly as the ones in the forefront.

Sorry I've been MIA recently. I've been chasing Dave's boy Deadshot around Arkham City.

  5. That's what really stuck out to me about the spread too Craig - I hope everyone clicks to enlarge it to see what you mean.

No worries about the MIA - I actually thought it could be the Arkham goodness, I know how much you were lookin' forward to it!
