THE TUESDAY TUSSLE: Bill Reinhold vs Thing

The Tuesday Tussle; the biggest illustrators squaring off against pop's biggest icons - icons you never thought they'd touch. This week, the man who's as stunning with an inkbrush as he is with a pencil, Bill Reinhold takes on Aunt Petunia's perennial favourite, the Thing. Fight!

WINNER: The Thing I thought Bill's best drawn character would always be The Punisher, but Thing here doesn't fall far from the Reinhold tree.

It's got everything that Kirby installed in The Thing's origins nailed. Giant machines that look awesome without knowing what they do, 'Kirby dots' and The Thing's brickskin. The secret to the whole character is in how you render Ben's skin. Here, one of the pro's in the current Supergirl creative team more than makes the grade.

See more examples of Bill's brilliance, right after the jump.

  1. Thanks for the kind words Dan! As a kid I could never draw the Thing. Couldn't figure him out. So a commission gave me a chance to really study him.
And of course I had to go with the Jack Kirby version.

  2. Hey Bill, wow thanks for taking the time to stop by and leave a few words! I can imagine Ben's skin can make him a toughie to crack, but you did a fantastic job.
