NOW THAT'S A SPLASH PAGE: Spider-Man and Power Pack Do A PSA

Splash pages, you gotta love 'em. A blank canvas where the artist can hit you with a large dose of illustrated 'wow'. This week, okay it's not a splash page per say, but when I think of Marvel, this full page public service announcement ain't far from the top. In fact it's a safe bet if you read comics in the 80's, you remember it too;

At the time I didn't really know much about the Pack, and while the exact 'bad touch' in question went over my head too, I did know it was pretty swell of Marvel to get Spidey to flick a word of warning the way of me and my fellow comic book fanatics.

There are so many issues out there today that comics could still help to address - all while staying true to an iconic part of the industries history. "Escapism" can be a helpful tool in dealing with reality. Just as Pete and Power Pack proved all those years ago.

  1. These old Public Service Announcement comics are great. I fondly remember the Spider-man, Storm, and Power-man one about smoking.

    And I'm a huge Power Pack fan, so this totally rocks!

  2. Shag - I am going to Google that ad right now. When I was reading the old Power Man and Iron Fist series, I was adamant Storm would fall for Cage's man of the street ethics at some point, which he would bring to her protection of the Morlocks.

    Glad to know while that never really happened, they at least had some kinda paired up outing!

  3. Shag, I think I still have a copy of that one lying around somewhere! They used to hand them out at our school. :D I vaguely remember seeing this one too, which isn't surprising, considering how much Power Pack I read. I still miss them.

  4. Some of the Pack are in the pages of FF Random, as part of Franklin's Future Foundation, but yeah like all great things 80's I miss them still too :D
