NOW THAT'S A SPLASH PAGE: She-Hulk Joins John Byrne's Run On The Fantastic Four

Splash pages, you gotta love 'em. A blank canvas where the artist can hit you with a large dose of illustrated 'wow'. This week, if it could be said that without writer/artist John Byrne's run on Fantastic Four there wouldn't be an IADW, then this moment would be the point where that statement turned into a fact. Meet the new Fantastic Four, err Three...

Up until this point I'd loved Shulkie as an Avenger and never expected to see her join Marvel's mightiest quartet, let alone be excited about her jumping onboard in place of my favourite Marvelitte, The Thing.

DC's Crisis on Infinite Earths may have shaken multiverses, but the way the Marvel U recoiled after Secret Wars (this, Spidey's venomous new suit, a new Spider-Woman, etc) set up more than it's fair share of awesome for all the years that followed as well.

Will She-Hulk ever return to wearing the blue and white? We can only hope!

  1. Marvel doesn't have a great track record on its female superheroes but I've always felt Jen Walters held her own against the boys. I think it would be generally agreed that this was one of the few occasions were a new character replaced an iconic one and it still worked. Shame Marvel have sidelined She Hulk in recent days - she's a terrific, very funny, character.

  2. Robert, I agree--this was the best thing to come out of Secret Wars. And Jen really rocked as the FF's powerhouse. It's a shame they've mishandled her in recent years.

  3. Completely agree on both counts guys. Handled right, Jen is Marvel's female heavyhitter. Hope we get more of the original Shulkie soon.
