RANDOM WORK OF WOW: Argentinean Andrea Jen's Gambit

Sometimes you stumble across a portfolio where the artist only has a couple of comic based pieces, other times there can be just one work so brilliant you'd risk being stoned to death by fellow art lovers just for putting something else beside it. These are Random Works of Wow, and illustrating the point is artist Andrea Jen with Gambit.

Now look at those cards and watercolours fly! Gambit is one of those characters for whom I just can't understand why a solo series has never stayed afloat. For me personally he has more depth, flavour and mine-able history then his furry, metallic Canadian mate, but regardless - no dice.

Here with a strong grasp of manga (and the colour pink) Andrea shows whenever Marvel's ready, Gambit fans stand fully charged.

  1. I read all Gambit series.
Dan, they made him stupid and a jerk, which he isn't in x-men and lately in x-23.
I don't know who wrote that, but not even a Gambit fan,(I like him a lot) could keep paying for that trash.

  2. You know what Aliera - I always wanted Steve Skroce to come back and do Gambit after he had his success as an Artist on the Matrix, and just have Marvel let him bring that pace to the Cajun.

Instead they let him come back on Wolverine, which I get, and it was the best Wolvie story of it's time, but yeah, I always felt artistically he did a great job with Gambit, and could've really taken him places.

I haven't read a Gambit starring comic for ages, since Bachalo drew him as a Marauder, but here's hoping the idea of Gambit: Reshuffle isn't to far from Marvel's mind.

  3. I think they never knew what to do with him. He's one of those characters that I think is just too easy to write cheesy on accident. Now, don't get me wrong. I love the Cajun. He's always made my heart flutter. I just think you need someone with a specific, solid view of him to write him so that we'll all stand up and cheer. Until they do that I'd rather they left him alone so I don't have to go to bed crying.

  5. Ha once again Dave this 'he' is a she :D But you are right - either way, the artist sure can wield watercolours!

You know what Random, I think you hit the nail on the head there. While I'd love to see more of the X-Men's little 'Hellblazer' I agree it's best to wait for someone who can do him justice.
