MAKING A MARK: Kevin Bolk - Proving Size Truly Doesn't Matter

Twice a week, Making A Mark gives an insanely talented artist some IADW brag-space. Today goes to Kevin Bolk, an American illustrator who evades my defences for 'cute character art' and piledrives on through, with portraits of miniature marvels from every corner of pop culture. Starting with two of pop's current headliners, The Avengers.

A smart cookie before 'Con season, the other movie Avengers lie in Kevin's print gallery too, including Loki. Black Widow looks just like her Hollywood incarnation and what artist doesn't want to draw Iron Man?

These two are spin-offs from my childhood. Penguin and his multi-coloured flying umbrella was a favourite of my Mum's, while Carmen Sandiego on the right brought out the addictive worst in me in 1990, as I scrambled to track the siren across the globe, all in the era before Playstation! For something a little more modern, check this lady out;

 What do you think?  Sound off below in the comments section or click here for more great Making A Markists. To see Kevin's mini-models and a whole lot more, visit his website after the jump.

  1. Aww, how cute do those lil' guys look? Hell Penguin still looks like a pimp that he is despite being drawn in the mojo,x-babies-style.

  2. It's true Dale! Speakin' of pimpin' it's comics greatest secret that when Penguin opens his umbrella it instantly blares his ipod library on shuffle. I think here it's 50Cent and Candy Shop but I could be wrong.

  3. More like Jay-Z's "Big Pimpin'" Dan the man.

  4. You have a defense against cute characters? OOwwwhhh!
    They're sooo cute!
    Specially Loki! But even thor came out wonderfully in this style!
    I'm a fan.

  5. I like it too Aliera. Just don't see enough of this style.

  6. Hey Craig and Aliera, glad you both liked it. yeah my tastes never linger in cutesville long but when they do Im glad they prove as popular as Kevin has!
