DON'T FORGET TO DRAW THE KOOTIES: Timelapse Video Of Jim Lee Rendering The Wonder Woman / Superman Kiss

Call it 'The Kiss Heard Round The World', the fact Superman and Wonder Woman lock their iconic lips in Justice League #12, even made news headlines in New Zealand. While the powerhouse partners have got to similar bases in previous versions of the DCU (most notably in the seminal mini-series Kingdom Come), it is a first for the DC52.

To show off the mad skills of artist Jim Lee in drawing the cover, where Kal-El gets a taste of earth-girl kooties, DC Comics have released the following timelapse video of his process. It's an awesome insight into a man who firmly sits at the top of the game, just next time DC, can we get a few words from Lee as a voice over, stating a few tips and traps the drawing possessed? Then the vid would have a whole new level of 'play it forward' power!

  1. Actually, I don't need the voiceover. Yeah...I um...yeah. I'm good. I'm good.

  2. Dont get me started on what I feel about this...Im trying to moderate my comments here cause all the WW blogs I frequent - my all time fave books are Wonder Woman, Legion of Super-Heroes and Fantastic Four - are universally against this union.
Supes and Wondy have for me always had this best friends/work colleague vibe and do not do not do not work together romantically. I wont go on but I could be here all day, suffice it to state I og on a lot of WW sites and the overwhelming viewpoint is that this is wrong. Only the forum on Comic Book Resources has the fans creaming their collective pants over this 'ship but the track record of the offensive, highly obsessive posters on that particular forum can be best summed up in two words...racist and homophobic. So their offensive views can no longer be taken into any consideration. Even DC is finding it hard putting a collective fan-friendly spin on it, preferring to refer us to past stories where Kal and Diana have got it on [ convimiently ommitting they were elaborate ruses to confuse Lois or they were alternate world tales ], and also reminding us that even Kingdom Come didnt attempt this tosh until its very end, so bereft of any particulate notion. This is the plot without a story, the form without its function, a pot with nothing to piss in, a grave that cannot even sustain a funeral. Its the one that got away [easily]...because we never wanted it in the first place.
I find the entire idea completely devoid of substance or originality.
    Oh, and common sense.
And thats only my moderated view!

    1. Well put, thank you; I heartily agree. The whole thing feels completely incestuous to me. It's ... yucky.

  3. One thing. What's with the lasso?
She doesn't trust him to tell the truth? :)

  4. Even with the lasso some women still wouldnt believe a man if he told the truth. Theyr like that, trust me.
[you wouldnt think Ive been divorced three times before I was 32, would you].

  5. thanks for the comments folks!

Yeah Karl and Random, I'm not a fan of the idea myself to be honest and wasn't going to reference the plot at all until this how to draw vid came up. For me the notion doesnt work because like the Silver Surfer, both are attracted to the best aspects they find in humanity hence why they adopt it to defend it, and well neither are human so they wouldnt see that beauty in each other. it falls down conceptually to me.

Sure it's instant press, and the two share alot in common, but its more a basis for friendship then anything. Just like it was.

Aliera youve gotta admit in the early dating years a lie detector would be tempting to use lol you know before your own one gets inbuilt by life :-). As for Dianas reasons who knows. Maybe shes njust making sure its not really Martian Manhunter in disguise!

  6. I'd hate to have a relationship where you'd need a lasso to make someone tell you the truth. Better to just live naively in the belief that they do, do the things you like together, the things you don't separately, and argue pettily about the crap, then have makeup sex. I know it doesn't work that way in real life, but hey, fantasy is wonderful thing.
I have never understood people wanting Superman and Wonder Woman together, unless it's a "let's get these two beautiful people together thing" Of all the plotlines I've seen about it, Kingdom Come came closest to making sense. At the end of a truly trying and almost hopeless battle, I can see finding comfort in the arms of a friend who has seen you through it. Who has seen you at your worst, and still loves you, with all your faults, and strengths. That was the most human we had seen those two characters written, though. It wasn't just a case of titillating fluff. I could accept it, because it seemed natural.
The rest of them always just seemed like bids for sales spikes.

Meh, I just think it's DC trying to move units. It doesn't really matter to me because they'll just retcon/reboot everything in a few years anyway.

  8. Completely agree Random. Whats wrong with just being great mates anyways I ask?

Pensol, this month Justice League has had quite a few unit moving news flashes this and the future teasers included.. and it needs them. That book is bleeding huge amounts of 'wrong' when it really should be anything but.

Still like you say, the future may just fix everything.

  10. The reboots always chage everything again. This was seen before.I don't get the fuss at all. Int the 80's-90's they kissed and then went "What am I doing?"
I they google their eyes and ask the same thing again I'll probably go some years without reading that title.
I think most people lie, and then some times tell the truth. Either we accept that people are not perfect, are able to relativizate and live with it. Or then if if we can't acceptc one crap too many, it' is better to move on.
The benefit of the doubt can be used many times but although theres is no need for a poligraph it could be fun to use it some times in some people :D

  12. Aliera - I always think you do an awesome job at speaking another language - believe me, if it was the other way around you'd really see some funny errors :)

What a shift DC has made in 2012 huh? I checked on one of my old favourite blogs yesterday to see if the writer was okay and they've stopped blogging due to the DC52. For them it has killed their passion.

That's when I feel sad over the whole event. For DC it's business and how to increase the profit margin - like anywhere. But for fans these are the characters we've grown old with, and when anyone suddenly becomes someone else (in real life or not) it can be a pretty hard truth to come to grips with, lasso of not).
