RANDOM WORK OF WOW: Elizabeth Torque's Death

Sometimes you stumble across a portfolio where the artist only has a couple of comic based pieces, other times there can be just one work so brilliant, you'd risk being stoned to death by fellow art lovers for putting something else beside it. These are Random Works of Wow, and illustrating the point this week is Elizabeth Torque and Death.

Leave it to Neil Gaiman to write a Death that fans find endlessly attractive! Proving there is eternal life after the end of a series, this image of Death by French artist Elizabeth Torque is wall poster friendly, if not looking like the teaser for a new #1 issue!

  1. i've seen this character around but i don't know anything about her. but i like this art it's got a sharp and clean style to it. good figure composition too i wonder if the artist used a reference from a magazine or something like that.

  2. Death was a brilliant part of Sandman Dave, and especially when drawn by Chris Bachalo. She's an upbeat every cloud has a silver lining girl, doing one of the worst jobs going.

You are right about art styles. I love the use of blacks and the kitten is a good touch too.

Death is one of the most brilliantly written characters in recent comic book history. And the fascination with her isn't just on the visual side, although how they depicted her certainly helped. As the friendliest, sanest, and most constant of the Endless I have absolutely no qualms snagging every decent work of art that depicts her. And I love this one. It has that smile down pat. Of course, the dead kitty playing on her lap is just brilliant!

  6. I agree with Random - Death is one of the most fleshed out characters comics has ever produced. If she was at Marvel she'd have five series, be on two X-teams and 3 Avenger line-up's, plus have a clone by now too!

  7. Exactly Dan! And I can't wait to see more of her. I picked up two...no wait, three...artists prints of her at the con by different new artists, and there were a lot more to choose from. I don't think that interest in her or the Endless is going anywhere soon. Yay! New Gaiman books!
Aliera, it really is. I keep looking at this shot, and thinking I need it, too.

  9. Looks like this French artist might just have a few international fans on her hands! Hopefully Random Death shows up in the new Sandman prequel in some way!
