RANDOM WORK OF WOW: Menton J. Matthews III's Daredevil and Elektra

Sometimes you stumble across a portfolio where the artist only has a couple of comic based pieces, other times there can be one work so brilliant, you'd risk being stoned to death by fellow art lovers for putting something else beside it. These are Random Works of Wow, and illustrating the point this week is Menton J. Matthews III and his Daredevil and Elektra.

If you've seen his Silent Hill art or Monocyte for IDW Publishing, you know the noir based relationship of Matt Murdock and Elektra is a perfect fit for this atmospheric artist! Daredevil's haunting eyes and realistic sombre face hold your attention so much, you don't even realise his ninja-trained sweetheart has taking to wearing platforms as part of her sai-weilding battlesuit! Now that's a trick and a half!

What do you think?  After you've clicked to enlarge, sound off below or to view more of Menton's awesome artwork, click the jump.

  1. Killer, killer art! Marvel needs to snatch this talented guy up quick and put him on an official DD project immediately!

You said it Dan, this guy can draw!

  2. Thanks Dale - I reckon he could sure bring a much needed kick start to Marvel horror too. Werewolf By Night, Blade, The Midnight Sons... where are these guys?

  3. You'd think, considering the upswell in the horror genre lately, they'd be all over that. But maybe the upswell only includes teenagers fawning over the creatures of the night.
Excuse me while I mourn for the teenage crowd.
I love the artwork. Perfection in all things. Even the boots, although it makes me, who has tried to walk in such things, wonder how she RUNS in them. Then I remember it's a comic. That's how.

  4. @Randomnerd: "Excuse me while I mourn for the teenage crowd."

Quote of the week man, quote of the fucking week!:)

Now the Midnight Sons would be an awesome concept to bring back. That has Rick Remender, Jason Arron, or even Jeff Lemire, written all over that.

    Make it happen Marvel!

  5. Oooh, they could bring back the Lilin. Freakier than ever.
    That would be epic.

While the teenage crowd might be lost, I have hope for the younger set. My daughter (about to be ten this month) has requested Cthulhu on her cake, and a horror themed birthday party. Yes, she knows the works of Lovecraft. She's been writing her own Cthulhu stories since she was seven. My baby. I did that.

  6. Now that's going to be a birthday party to remember Random! That girl will go far... you don't need to be Dr Strange to tell that one.

So many great characters could come out of Marvel horror. They do have Morbius in the pages of Spidey but where's Blade? The dude is almost a household name in more countries then many folks can recite in a sitting and he's AWOL? Then there is Hannibal King, who really should come back just because his name is so awesome.

Like Dale - I too second your quote.

Dale - I go Remender for the win, maybe a tag team with Lemire if his DC work ever lightens!

  7. Random, I´love to see pictures of that party or at least the Cake!
Hoe does Electra fights on that boots? That is not good for equilibrium! But still it would hurt getting kicked by such heavy boots :)

  8. Yeah Random - take photos of your art!

I'm not sure how Elektra runs in those boots either, but at least now we know where she hides her wallet and passport!
