RANDOM WORK OF WOW: Jim Lee's Punisher

Sometimes you stumble across a portfolio where the artist only has a couple of comic based pieces, other times there can be just one work so brilliant, you'd risk being stoned to death by fellow art lovers for putting something else beside it. These are Random Works of Wow, and illustrating the point today is Jim Lee. Now I know he's got more killer art then one man should legally be aloud to produce, but right now I miss his take on Frank Castle, The Punisher. So here he is;

See how awesome this is? Not only is he blowing away ninjas left and right (as any good hero should), he still looks like a hero and not some psychotic gunman as many modern artists seem to sketch him as. Jim Lee followed in the shadow of 'Punisher' greats like Mike Zeck, but stayed true to comics in the process. 'Nuff said.

  1. See, the problem here is, as all ninjas should know by now, they fought him as a GROUP. They should have gathered up before hand, drawn straws, and that lucky ninja, who at the end would have been THE GREATEST NINJA WHO EVER LIVED, would have gone in and destroyed the Punisher. Because a lone ninja is unbeatable. In a group, they're just meat. For the Punisher.
    Great Artwork. :)

  2. @randomnerd, Ha, you soo funny:)

    But damn good Lee art here. This seems to go back to when he actually cared not to rush his work and actually pay close attention to anatomy.

    Sadly I don't own the few issue Lee did do, but I was always a fan of that work.

    Same here, and yeah you're right Dan, Lee really does seem to be channeling Mike Zeck here,

    Added props go to the inker and colorist for making this piece so damn good to look at!

  3. lol Random! I think we can spread that out in many ways and create a whole ninja art of war book. There probably is already one but who's afraid of competition? 'So you wanna be a pop culture ninja?' I can see it now.

    Dale you are right on the inking and colouring. Jim Lee generally keeps that honour to a short list of few. Thanks for the comments all!

  4. Dan, I love that idea. I think it would spread like wildfire among The Hand. Every single one of them would have it on their coffee table.
