NOW THAT'S A SPLASH PAGE: Mr Miracle and Big Barda Debut On Earth 2

Splash pages, you gotta love 'em. A blank canvas where the artist can hit you with a large dose of illustrated 'wow'. This week, the splashie from my recent pull-list that actually got me excited, the return of Jack Kirby creations Mister Miracle and his wife Big Barda. Both drawn expertly by Nicola Scott in the pages of DC's Earth 2.

I didn't know about Mister Miracle's return in this issue, I was picking it up because it also features the return of another classic concept, Dr Fate. To find one of my favourite DC characters ever is back (on a collision course with Steppenwolf and his Fury no less), has me thinking that my monthly DC haul, which has lately dwindled to just two titles, may soon be expanding back to three.

I love how both costume redesigns nod to, but don't trample over each character's history. Geez Nicola Scott, is there anything you can't draw? And yes, Dr Fate got a pretty cool splash page too;

 What do you think?

  1. Love Nicola Scott!
    I wish she had stayed a bit longer on her Wonder Woman run several years back, sadly her mothers death made her quit the book after two issues. Like to see her back on it one day; at least we had her WW; Blackest Night to read and enjoy.
    Her Birds of Prey run was good also.
    Is it true or an urban myth that she used to be an actress and was in 'Neighbours'?

  2. Doesn't ring any bells with me sorry Karl as a Neighbours actress, maybe she used another name then? There was a Nicola Charles? I'm not really a TV watcher though so I may be wrong (there's always a first time)!

    I liked Blackest Night Wonder Woman too - that was the only mini series Ive kept with the GL comics and main maxi series. All the others went to Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland, which is a shame, as BN: Titans had serious potential.

  3. First off, Dan that is supercool that you donate your books to a childrens hospital, Kings to you.

    @Mr. Miracle: Thank God somebody fixed your costume.

  4. Thanks OA. Sometimes I just look at my collection and think its a little big, so kids who aren't having the best time make ideal candidates. Glad you like Mr Miracles new threads too. I love Seven Soldiers like no one else, but when you retouch Kirby, you're saying you've got bigger balls than any human can.
