RANDOM WORK OF WOW: Gabriele Dell'Otto's Ultimate Bastich - Lobo

Sometimes you stumble across a portfolio where the artist only has a couple of comic based pieces, other times there can be just one work so brilliant, you'd risk being stoned to death by fellow art lovers for putting something else beside it. These are Random Works of Wow and illustrating the point this week is Gabriele Dell'Otto with Lobo.

Okay, so it's not that random for Dell'Otto to do something 'wow' (actually it's a sign of the apocalypse if he does otherwise), but come on, how often has Lobo been drawn this well?

Normally, the 'Main Man' is drawn as an over-muscled, multi-chain wearing steroid junkie, but by sliming things back we get a Lobo that looks like that guy outside the pub you passed on the way home. Just hopefully plus bloody hook type thingee.

Maybe after all his cosmic work for Marvel, we could get some Dell'Otto space Annihilation going on at DC you reckon?

  1. This Lobo is actually a bit scarier than the normal version. I dig it. This looks more like someone I wouldn't mess with.

  2. And the symbol around his neck Random, do you think Gab is saying he wants a crack at drawing Death?

  3. I think that would be an excellent combination. Look how well he does pale skin! Seriously, though, I think he'd do a great job with the endless. I'd actually like to see a mock up of that.

  4. That has got to be hands down, one of the best depictions of Lobo I've seen a long while. If only D'Otto was really quick but just as good, he'd be killing it on a monthly title.

  5. Oh and Dan, about the symbol around his neck; it's based off the old Nordic/Germanic Cross, later adopted by the Nazis. All Lobo's missing here is to wear the old boker Nazi Stormtrooper helmet and he'd be set;)

  6. Dale thanks for filling in those gaps, now there's more of the picture, you can read into it more! Like you I think it's one of the best of the main man, and like you Random, I'd like to see him do Daniel and co... His airbrush-ish work would sure give Sandman a surreal vibe!

  7. Which is what Sandman has always had, and needed. Someone who paints almost like they're dreaming it. :)
