Drawn by Mark Bagley, this is the moment where the Surfer answers an S.O.S. from Reed Richards, and soars to the aid of both Marvel's best-ever teen-team and their allies against Terrax, The Fantastic Four. An amazing surprise and appreciated gesture, I post and share it here with gratitude. Thanks Dave, it really helped.

The sight of that Silvery Bald Head against that pink background would raise anyone's spirits.
ReplyDeleteBagley just doesn't do it for me, really. His faces seem so contorted and aching, as if in pain all the time. I still cant get over two things; his four issue FF run at the end of 2001 and his run on JLA, mainly because he made the delectable Donna Troy look ugly; I thought no one could do that! He also cant draw feet for some reason. and now hes back on FF, joy - not!
ReplyDeleteStill, he did always draw a fast and frenetic Silver Surfer, he and Ron Lim were the best 90s artists for cosmic-type stuff. When it came to drawing aliens [esp cute ones] he certainly knew his stuff. and his New Warriors suited his style also [I have this same issue, for the FF appearance].
That it would Random!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karl - I thought Bagley was a fish out of water at DC, and no disrespect to him, but you could tell Marvel was his favourite pair of slippers. I loved him best on The New Warriors, where I think he went more detailed on that book than he did on others, and Thunderbolts. Those original issues really gelled nicely.
you'd think the Silver Surfer would be one of the easiest characters in Marvel to draw but i challenge any one out there to come up with some kind of original action scene on his board like this splash page. then you'll see that shit is hard to do.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is Dave - well said!
ReplyDeleteyeah i always liked that concept of him being such a bad ass cause he could use most of his brain unlike most people. and then you've got those who use very little of their brain matter in the real world. if you recall Deathstroke and Deadshot had a show down at the end of the Villains United mini-series. in the past i've found some good Deathstroke stuff for this blog i'll post those links on your facebook page.
