NOW THAT'S A SPLASH PAGE: Darkhawk Has His Heart Stolen

Splash pages, you gotta love 'em. A blank canvas where the artist can hit you with a large dose of illustrated 'wow'. This week, it's the splashie that ripped something right out of my chest, even harder than Tombstone does to Darkhawk in its central image. Being Darkhawk, it has to be drawn by the incredible Mike Manley.

You have to understand in the 90's I thought Darkhawk was the second coming of awesome. I ate, drank, lived and breathed the hero's adventures, and he even led to the first letter I ever wrote to Marvel. Yes - pen on paper letter - I'm that old!

While he had fought many a Spidey-villain before Tombstone came along (a dude I'd never heard of until now), having the concrete skinned mobster side with Bazin was vile enough - I never imagined any foe would rip Darkhawk's amulet of power from his chest - that would just be, well..., evil!

  1. let me tell ya mate it doesn't take a super villain to rip your heart out.

  2. It sure doesn't Dave, but either way it sure gets the hero inside you to rise.

  3. Damn, I remember this! It was an interesting storyline for a bit, seeing how Dk would get his "heart" back in time, Good, solid stuff during that time period that didn't always have the best writing and art out there.

  4. It sure was Dale - I couldn't wait for Darkhawk and Lodestone's rematch in this storyline, although it did end up being shorter than I hoped, at least I got Venom too.
