SWEET AS: The Best From Archie Comics' November 2013 Solicitations

Archie Comics is a new publisher to Sweet As. The home of humour and all-ages fare for decades, they are challenging readers to give them another look. I respect that attitude and this space salutes that.

When we Kiwis find something we like, we say it's "Sweet as". From The Shield back-up in The Fox to Phil Jimenez on Kevin Keller, when I'm looking at the best and new releases from Archie Comics for November 2013, these comics here make the 'Sweet As' grade:

 COVER OF THE MONTH:
FRANCESCO FRANCAVILLA  AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE #3

Proving that classic pulp-horror comic feel never dies, Francesco rocks this cover like no one else could. As that's obviously Jughead, those hands are probably reaching for a burger and fries!

This issue: The escape from Riverdale continues in this zombie apocalypse fulled ongoing series! The surviving members of the gang take refuge in the Lodge Mansion, but there's no stopping Archie from sneaking out, risking life and limb to find his parents, leaving those behind vulnerable to an enemy within! (Teen+ readers)!

(W) Roberto Aguirre Sacasa (A) Francesco Francavilla and Jack Morelli

 JUMP ON POINT  Archie #650
(W) Dan Parent (A) Rich Koslowski and various

Not only does this issue have an awesome variant cover by Saga artist Fiona Staples, it kicks off The Archies World Tour story-arc - first stop: Bollywood!

To make it a milestone issue, Josie and the Pussycats, the Bingoes, and the Madhouse Glads join the tour to India. Yet when Archie romances Bollywood superstar Amisha, he might have Valerie, Betty and Veronica after his tail!

RETRO COOL  Josie and the Pussycats

Proving they have more staying power than many true 'girl power' bands, Josie and the Pussycats appear on their second variant cover of the November range, this time on Life With Archie #33 by Chrissie Zullo!

  1. Archie always makes me think of the 'Archie Legion' from the 90s reboot.
Josie and the Pussycats *sigh* loved that show.

  2. Thanks Karl - I really dig how Fiona draws them too. I know she's whizzing throuh Saga for Image at the moment, but a few more covers like that wouldn't hurt no body!
