NOW THAT'S A SPLASH PAGE: The Devil Meets The Doctor

Splash pages, you gotta love 'em. A blank canvas where the artist can hit you with a large dose of illustrated 'wow'. This week, I'm chucking the light back on my man Daredevil, and a splashie from the early issues of his Marvel Knights rebirth, where I felt artist Joe Quesada channelled a little Chris Bachalo, as he brought in Dr Strange..

See what I mean? All those celtic-ish frames, stars and craziness really brought the good doctor on stage in a way that suited his name perfectly. In fact if I re-re-read anything this weekend, it's probably going to be the arc this splash page is apart of, Guardian Devil.

  1. Ah, lovely choice dan! Joe Quesada and the colorist richard starking really made Doc Strange look the best he ever did at that point in time. How there weren't giant posters and prints of that scene and every scene with Doc in it I'll never know.

    The art was sheer breathtaking.

  2. You're right Dale, this was the first time in a while I'd seen Strange handled so well. Previously people had tried to downplay his classic costume, but Joe really took it and pumped the hell out of it!
