THE COMICS' BEAT: Superman In Bonnie Tyler's
'Holding Out For A Hero'

Mondays. They are worse than Dr Doom and after a heavy one, it can be a little hard to get the drum pumping again for the week ahead. As a former DJ, each Monday I dig into my collection, and chuck up a hit nodding to comics' best.

This week, with New Year's Eve up ahead, I figured it's the perfect spot to pull out one of those hits you always find at an all-ages dance floor - the kind used to dance in the New Year every year (Supes even looks a bit disco-ball-ish doesn't he?). Back on track, it's 80's, it's Bonnie Tyler, and yes... she's still holding out for a hero.

"Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat. It's gonna take a Superman to sweep me off my feet"

What do you think?  Full lyrics are here. To buy, visit and back here Monday for another Comic Beat!

  1. Danny :) way to take your boi on a nostalgic ride. I wrecked my man's motor cycle one summer and for some reason after I was getting up off the concrete trying not to limp or fall back down this record was playing in my head.

The bike made a stunning comeback.

  2. Thanks OA! Yeah it's odd how songs can do that to ya huh? Just a few notes and you're tripping down some memory they connect you too. Summer roads and bike riding are a perfect time to sound out a few tunes too. Glad you and the bike made it out okay.

  3. This song is the background theme to the computer game Battlefield 4.
Growing up I always thought that Bonnie Tyler was Scottish not Welsh.

  4. Hey Karl! Just shows, you never know where a 80's pop track is going to show up next huh? I used to get this and Total Eclipse of The Heart confused. I always thought the kids with the 'heat vision' would show up in the song about Superman, and would watch the video to no avail to see them appear. 'Fractured childhood' does not describe it.
