THE COMICS' BEAT: Rick Jones In The Traits' 'Nobody Loves The Hulk'

Mondays. They are worse than Dr Doom and after a heavy one, it can be a little hard to get the drum pumping again for the week ahead. As a former DJ, each Monday I dig into my collection, and chuck up a hit nodding to comics' best.

This week, I thought I'd follow up on last week's Captain Marvel Comics Beat, with one mentioning Rick Jones. Comic's most nomadic sidekick and one time Marvel Captain Marvel. The 60's track is titled Nobody Loves The Hulk and as far as Garage Rock goes, it's pretty damn catchy. Give it a whirl;

"Poor Bruce Banner was working in his laboratory
When he saw Rick Jones about to go up in a blaze of glory."

 What do you think?  Full lyrics are here. To buy, visit itunes.com and back here Monday for another Comic Beat!

    Ever hear this oldie?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nam1diYIJzQ#at=26

    Rick Jones is SUCH a super-hero slut! He has been passed around the Marvel Universe for years... He's a himbo, but I love him...

  2. Thanks King! Yup he sure is a bit more than Marvel's pass the parcel, but I'm sure Peter David at least still has a few decent ideas for the former Captain Marvel.

    Yeah I like that Metamorpho track too - nice pick! When I was a DJ, I'd be given a lot of playlists to listen to by others or just people whose tastes were too off-beat to talk with their friends about. Everytime I heard a comic name or reference, the track would get an extra tick and I'd jot it down - now as I pick one a week for the site I get the vibe I could do a pretty cult radio station - or at least fill the odd commercial break ;)

    Thanks for the comments!

      How about Superhoes by Funkdoobiest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7hA3GupuEc That could be Rick Jones #1 Summer Jam. I know it was mine wayyy back in 7th grade. "Cyclops, Wolverine and the Nightcrawler went to a bar... and, yo, they had dollars!"
      I also collect songs with comic references in them- just like you; I'll hear that shit and go "Oooo!" and file it away.
