NOW THAT'S A SPLASH PAGE: The Fantastic Three In Kirby Space

Splash pages, you gotta love 'em. A blank canvas where the artist can hit you with a large dose of illustrated 'wow'. This week, I'm kicking off the New Year with a splashie featuring Marvel's first family, The Fantastic Four. Umm, make that three. Of course, it's by Jack Kirby.

Not only is such a cosmic page with Reed, Ben and Johnny pure Jack, it reminds me of what I always found funny about many of the early covers to The Fantastic Four. The Invisible Woman is invisible.

As Karl pointed out in the comments section earlier this week, we have just passed the 20th anniversary of Jack Kirby's passing, and this 'extra' splashie is a tip of the hat to one man who truly can never have enough credit or fans.

While his family may never get the royalties they are due from Marvel sadly enough, let's hope the New Year allows us all to escape the 'Negative Zone' and grab some Kirby-ishly trippy adventures ahead!

  1. Delighted with this splash page!
No-0ne draws the FF like Kirby.
    No-one draws space like Kirby.
No-one draws the Negative Zone like Kirby.
It was twenty years this past Thursday since his passing and for most of us growing up with one of his comics gracing us, there will be NO-ONE like him ever again, The one true master, the one and only...
    KING.

  2. Hey Karl! It was your comments earlier in the week that made me add a second splashie to the week and it had to be The Fantastic Four to salute the King with.
