NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL A SPLASH PAGE: Wolverine vs Juggernaut

Splash pages, you gotta love 'em. A blank canvas where the artist can hit you with a large dose of illustrated 'wow'. This week, one of my most memorable splash pages of all, featuring Wolverine and The Juggernaut by Adam Kubert.

The reason that Adam, his brother and his dad are the icons they are: they know perspective. Be it the camera angle of the panel or a perspective which plays off the comparison of the characters at hand like this does, few other artists come close.

The issue; Wolverine vol1 #93, and further proof no Wolverine with Larry Hama in the writing seat is a bad gig, it features a Juggy who awakes after being smacked across the planet by Onslaught, escapes the X-Mansion infirmary and ends up in a bar where a drunken Cannonball gets a similar 'Onslaught punch' in trying to take the big guy down. As the 'Naut heads in for the kill, well, that's when this happens.

Good ol' loyal till the end Wolverine.

 What do you think?

  1. I used to have that issue! -Back as they were coming out... That was a bad-ass moment! I really should try tracking those down again. Even though I always hated Marvel shoving Wolverine down my throat all the time- there were some good stories in there.
I remember the issue where they found Juggy K-O'd and you were reading like WHO OR WHAT COULD DO THAT TO THE JUGGERNAUT?! Such a great start to such a horrible event.

  2. Likewise King - Adding Magneto to the mix was a weak move as far as Onslaught was concerned, as a straight evil Charles Xavier would've aloud Professor X to get the chop from the book, as it really needed to get into a new era after that, have Jean lead and spin-off a decent Gambit book about the man who lost wis girlfriend to Magneto - not Joseph - that do was a ballbuster move.

Glad you liked the splashie though!
