THE COMICS' BEAT: Superman in Disturbed's 'Land of Confusion'

Mondays. They are worse than Dr Doom and after a heavy one, it can be a little hard to get the drum pumping again for the week ahead. As a former DJ, each Monday I dig into my collection, and chuck up a hit nodding to comics' best.

Now yes Genesis did this song first, and yes, a 'Superman' of sorts even shows up in their video clip for the song, but me, I like Disturbed's version better. It's gruntier - perfect for the gym, and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane directed the music video, as a statement on greed and lust (to see a video of Todd talking about the character design, click here).

"Oh, Superman, where are you now? When everything's gone wrong somehow?
The men of steel, these men of power, are losing control by the hour"

  1. oh I so remember back when this Genesis video first came out on MTV (back when MTV had music videos and only when about 11 people watched VH1). it was one of those visually ground breaking videos just like A-Ha's "Take on Me" and Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer".

  2. Thanks Dave! Yeah the Genesis one was a classic aye especially for stop-motion animation. This one is pretty cool on the animation side too though ;-)
