THE CRUNCH: Jessica Drew Anew, Hellboy Gets Maleev, Malice and Mistletoe Crowd Funds, and Dancing Groot (Of Course)

Behind the scenes, I've been one pretty sick dude (hence why the site went quiet a few weeks back). Now that I'm back on my feet again, it's time to catch up on some of the highlights that passed me by, so let's get into one of the first ever IADW regular features, The CrUNCH!

CrUNCH! Because Marvel hasn't googled the terms 'Alex Maleev' and 'Silver Surfer', to see a hit waiting to happen, the superstar artist is heading to Dark Horse in December, to help launch Hellboy and the B.P.R.D., written by Mike Mignola and John Arcudi. Few 'dark' artists out there could land a Hellboy gig and avoid the trap of trying to follow Mike's 'design-ish' use of shadows. Alex and his watercolours, are that artist. Featuring a 50's Hellboy on his very first mission in the Brazilian jungle, Santa leave room in your sleigh, this has 'hit' written all over it. More...

CrUNCH! Speaking of Alex Maleev, as a Marvel fan who came into comics in the 70's, Jessica Drew means a hell of a lot to me. Now Greg Land is stepping into a gig Alex once held, artist on an all-new Spider-Woman series, and writer Dennis Hopeless will be riding shotgun alongside him. Flipping Jess through the multiverse as she is targeted by Morlun during Marvel's Spider-Verse event, the November debut series sees Spi play 'veteran caretaker' to the 'rookie' Silk. Hopefully this series gets to give the hard-nosed heroine her due. God knows she deserves it.

CrUNCH! Putting legions of bootleggers out of a job, Marvel has released a HD Guardians of.. oh just watch...

CrUNCH! Over on the Kickstarter side of the fence, Nathan Graham Davis and Jack Purcell are hoping to raise enough dinero to make their joint project Malice and Mistletoe a reality. Working on the theme where Christmas is business and Claus now sits atop a trillion-dollar capitalist empire, safe in his arctic kingdom of slavery and debauchery. Or so he thinks. As six CEO's are murdered sparking a trail of revenge, Claus must turn to the Nordic countryside to find the one man capable of exterminating the vermin rising to plague him. To donate, click here.

  2. I'm incredibly excited about Hellboy. Can't wait to get my hands on a copy. I adore Mignola , but you're right, almost every artist tries to emulate that first, iconic feel of the book. Which isn't bad, but I'd love to see what a truly talented artist does to create the overall feeling of the book in their own way. Successfully of course, I don't want to see it if it sucks. ;)
So glad you're feeling better. We miss you when you're gone.

  3. No worries Nathan!

Thanks Random! Yeah I'm glad to be 99% again too (never been 100%, so won't claim that ;). I'll definitely check out the first few issues of the new Hellboy. It looks pretty cool and I like it when he trips to the past.
