2016: Doctor Strange, Hit Picks And Getting Back On The Horse

The comic movie menu over the next twelve months is vast. X-Men: Apocalypse, Deadpool, Doctor Strange, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Captain America: Civil War and Gambit. How will any wallet cope?

While my non comic friends don't get why Batman would ever fight (or last against) Superman, Civil War is their early fav. Me? While I'm loving that Archangel (X-Men: Apocalypse) and Wonder Woman (Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice) will make their respective debuts on the big screen, I'm giggly like a school-girl over Doctor Strange.

Well Doctor Strange (yes, even without a trailer) and Netflix's Daredevil season 2, and Luke Cage.

In terms of actual comics, I hope the converts that the movies bring into comic stores dive into the back issues to find the classic adventures of all these great heroes and villains. Plus cast an eye over the adjacent shelves to find hot new titles by other publishers, like Image Comics' Tokyo Ghost and I Hate Fairyland.

For me, I'm hoping to get IADW back up and running. Due to poor health things have been a little tricky, but with artist Kelley Jones on Swamp Thing finding his iconic character partner, new Iron Man comics that feel as good as the days before Marvel went 'iron-movie crazy', more Midnighter, Hercules and Bloodshot: Reborn, I think I'll have plenty of motivation to do so!

  1. Doctor Strange looks so fucking good! Right?
The costume is perfect- the best the Marvel movies have ever done! I was soooo worried about it, but damn... *tearsineyes*
Too bad it looks like his spells are gonna look like those 3D touch-screen hologram computers a-la Minority Report that Stark is always using in the films, though.
Still, Black Panther says "meow" so... priorities.

    Feliz Navidad!!!

  2. Yeah I was worried about this too - I thought the costume would look like someone stepped off the set of ER, but no it is brilliant!

As for Black Panther - yeah that's my favourite ticket for 2017 - just not sold yet on the costume. That looks pretty military to me and I just don't marry it to how sleek I saw the Panther in my head. Hmm roll on Civil War so I can see more!

    1. I like the BP costume alright. The concept-art of it was a little more spot on- but the film version could be worse...

Civil War will be... interesting. I was not a huge fan of the comics, so... not that it's a spot-on adaptation. But, come on: No Speedball?!? Booooo! -Zero stars!

    2. I wish - Speedball would be soo trippy on the big screen. And paranoia following the blowing up of a high school - now there's a real world link!

  3. Hope your health improves soon Danny boy. It's good to see more of us back at it this year since the tall-end of 2015 seemed to kick our collective asses.
Hoping to post new skits after my Laptop's fixed. Otherwise just some sporadic posts on my end until ol' bessie's back at it again.

This year, probably moreso than last year, will be remembered for all the movies coming out. Damn sure interested in Dr. Strange, especially since they're promising it'll be a different animal than we're used to seeing. Deadpool, X-Men, Civil War.....hell of a time to be a comic fan isn't it? Well movie-wise anyways....

    2. I'm with King, Dave - great special effects and the rogue stormtrooper was an awesome plot twist that just got buried. Otherwise I paid $20 to watch A New Hope all over again.

    3. To be fair, though, Dan: A New Hope is a really good movie.

    4. Easily one of the best - just I don't need to pay $20 to see it again, when I already own it on DVD and Netflix :)
