CRIMINALS ASSEMBLE: Waid And Kitson Reunite For JLA Year One Like Avengers 1.1

What a difference a few months makes. Recently it seemed like DC was the rudderless ship to a direction savvy Marvel, yet now DC Rebirth is firing on all cylinders, while Marvel NOW! implodes like that scene of colliding Helicarriers in Captain America: Winter Soldier.

Part of my quest to reconnect with Marvel, is now part of my insane hunger for upcoming series Avengers #1.1.

Part of an apparent leak of the House of Ideas' October wave of Marvel Now releases, the book promises to follow then freshly reformed criminals Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver as they accept Captain America's invitation to step into the shoes of the original Avengers as the second incarnation of the team.

Better yet, it will be written by Mark Waid and illustrated by Barry Kitson, the same team that produced the similarly natured JLA: Year One for DC - still one of the best maxi-series ever created.

This line-up has always intrigued the hell out of me, all firm favourites, it always made me buzz out on two fronts; how Cap (freshly de-thawed from the ice himself) handled the public response to crooks invading Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and how a shield, a bow, fast feet and a non "no more mutants" level witch filled the power vacuum left by the likes of Thor, Iron Man and Giant-Man.

I tell you, this is going to be good.

OTHER OCTOBER NEWBIES ALREADY RAISING EYEBROWS: Occupy Avengers by David Walker (W) and Gabriel Walta (A), Venom by Mike Costa (W) and Gerardo Sandoval (A), Prowler by Sean Ryan (W) and Jamal Campbell (A), Doctor Strange: Sorcerers Supreme by Robbie Thompson (W) and Javier Rodriguez (A), and Slapstick by Reilly Brown & Fred Van Lente (W) and Reilly Brown & Mike Norton (A)
